About Cookol

Let me be honest—the name “Cookol” took me a while to settle on. I went through dozens of domain ideas before landing here. I liked how it sounded like “Cook Online,” which really captures what I hope this site can be: a place where you can learn to cook real Chinese food comfortably from home, without stress.

Cookol isn’t about restaurant-style techniques or fancy chef tricks—they often need special tools, hard-to-find ingredients, or years of practice. Instead, everything here comes from everyday Chinese home kitchens, just like the meals my family and millions of others cook week after week.

I try my best to list exact ingredient amounts and suggest easy swaps if something’s not available where you live. No guesswork, no frustration—just clear, doable recipes.

This site is still growing. I’m constantly adding new dishes, improving instructions, and thinking about useful features. And if you have ideas or feedback? I’d genuinely love to hear them. Thanks so much for being here.

About Me

I was born in a small village in China, and I’ve been obsessed with cooking since I was a kid. My mom still laughs about this: when I was four, I boiled an egg, didn’t eat it right away—but instead sliced it thin, arranged the pieces on a plate like a flower, and only then took my first bite. I don’t even remember doing it, but she says it’s totally “me.”

As I got older, my parents were often tied up with work, so I started cooking for the family. Most of what I know, I learned from my grandma. She wasn’t a chef—just a woman who could turn rice, cabbage, and a few pantry staples into something deeply comforting and delicious. We didn’t have much back then, but somehow, my simple meals always earned a “Wow, this is good!” from my parents.

Life moved on—I went to college, became a software engineer, built a career, got married—and all the while, my cooking kept growing alongside me.

Today, I still work at a solid tech company, but over the years, I’ve realized something: I miss spending real time in the kitchen. I miss sharing the kind of food I grew up with—the everyday dishes Chinese families actually eat at home, not the showy restaurant versions.

So I built this site using the tech skills I’ve picked up along the way. Not to impress, but to connect. I hope it helps people around the world discover the warmth, simplicity, and soul of real Chinese home cooking. And honestly? Building Cookol has also been my way of coming back—to the stove, to my roots, and to a life I truly enjoy.
